Student Life
As the only PK-12 school located in the heart of downtown Lexington, Sayre School seamlessly melds the its progressive learning environment with the cultural resources of the surrounding cityscape, opening wide students’ hearts and minds through only-in-the-city experiences. Sayre provides students an opportunity to participate in the life of the local community and shares with them a perspective that transcends its regional boundaries.
A congenial, open relationship between faculty and students contributes to a learning environment that is comfortable and allows students to express themselves freely. Sayre actively encourages each student to step across their self-imposed boundaries and engage in one or more of the school’s growing number of clubs, councils, honor societies, athletic teams, class trips, and service learning opportunities so that they might unexpectedly discover something new and wonderful about their world, their classmates, or about themselves. Promoting positive attitudes toward the enrichment of learning and the constructive use of leisure time is key.
One of the school’s signature strengths is its ability to work with a wide variety of students. This diversity of learners enriches the school community, as students of varied talents recognize and accept each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and teachers broaden their repertoire of strengths to successfully reach all students. Each young man and woman leaves Sayre empowered to make their own unique and indelible mark, and no matter their pursuit, no matter how famed or how humble, the world is sure to be better for it.
