Kentucky Poet Laureate, Jeff Worley visited Sayre’s Upper School on Wednesday, February 19, as part of the English Department’s yearly sponsorship of a published writer. Mr. Worley’s presentation was entitled, “Where Poems Come From." He not only read from his various collections, including his newest chapbook entitled, Lucky Talk, he also discussed the poetry writing process, and the inspiration behind some of the poems he read. Tim O'Rourke, Head of Upper School said, "It was inspiring for the blossoming writers in the Upper School to hear a professional writer talk about his craft and read from his collected works."
Worley is the author of six books and three chapbooks of poetry as well as an anthology from University Press of Kentucky titled What Comes Down to Us: 25 Contemporary Kentucky Poets. Worley has received numerous other awards for his writing, including three Al Smith Fellowships from the Kentucky Arts Council and a National Endowment Creative Writing Fellowship.
