The Neo Thomas Sanders and Robert Andrew (Roan) Sanders International Education Fund has been established following their untimely passing in February 2019. “This Fund honors the request of the Sanders family to continue the legacy of Neo and Roan within the Sayre student body by recognizing their love of cultures and travel,” said Head of School Stephen Manella.
The Dominican Republic is home to the Wine to Water ceramic water filter factory, which produces innovative clean water solutions for local communities. Many families suffer from water-related illnesses that take the lives of 1,300 Dominicans and 5,700 Haitians each year, many of them children. Neo participated in two service trips and Roan one to the Dominican Republic.
The fund will support students who wish to attend the Wine to Water program in the Dominican Republic, or other international trips, when financial assistance is required and will be available beginning the 2019-2020 school year.
Funds will be rewarded up to 75% of the cost of the trip, up to $2,000. Awards from the Fund will be determined by a committee including the Head of Sayre’s Middle School, a representative of the Sanders family (to be identified by Dr. Ron Sanders), Dr. Jackie Banahan Hager and the Dean of Students of Sayre’s Upper School. This committee will adopt qualification requirements including demonstration of need. Specifics regarding the qualifications of recipients of need-based support will be provided by school administrators.
