On September 27, impressive showings from numerous Sayre golfers, notably 8th grader Ben Haggin and senior Robert Bratton, placed the Boys Varsity Golf team 4th in a field of 18 teams in the 9th region state qualifying tournament. Sayre placed behind three of the best teams in the state, finishing ahead of all Fayette County high schools and other strong teams including Scott County and Lexington Catholic. Through nine holes, Sayre was at 149 and in contention to win before a few tough breaks on the back nine derailed hopes of a big upset.

Sayre finished with a team best score for the season of 314 with rounds of 75 from Benny Haggin, 79 from Robert Bratton, 80 from both Kyle Sampson and Jack Bergstrom, and an 86 from Tyler Levy.

In a field of over 85 golfers, 8th grader Benny Haggin tied for 7th place, and senior Robert Bratton tied for 18th. Benny Haggin's the first Sayre Middle School golfer to place in the top ten in a regional competition.

Sayre Golf Coach Tim Bator said, “The regional tournament was one of the most exciting that I can remember. We played as well as we possibly could have on the front nine, and to be in a position to qualify for state half way through the tournament, from arguably the toughest region in the state, was fantastic. A 4th place finish in this region is a great way to finish a great season.“
