Office Programs

College Kickoff (late August)

College Kickoff, a program for junior students and their parents, is designed to provide an overview of our college-search philosophy and to share the “nuts and bolts” of our college counseling process.

A Cup of College Counseling (all year)

For sophomore parents, A Cup of College Counseling provides a time for parents to discuss college-related issues in a casual setting. Our conversation over coffee will provide helpful information pertaining to the college-search timetable, college entrance examinations and other topics of interest. This ongoing conversation will include a couple of meetings in the fall semester and three meetings in the spring semester.

Senior College Trip (mid September)

During Trips Week, seniors are expected to make college visits.  Many opt to travel with family, or the Counseling Office offers a four-day college tour for a small group of seniors.  The tour changes from year to year, depending on student interest.

College Visit Planning (all year)

The College Counseling Office offers planning assistance for families who will be traveling to look at colleges and universities. We are happy to arrange appointments and campus visits, as well as discuss routes and itineraries.

College Breakfast (mid October)

College and university admissions counselors from over 100 universities nationwide are invited to have breakfast and meet informally with Sayre seniors in small groups.  The counselors get a tour of campus and learn more about Sayre and its graduates.

College Admissions Forum (mid October)

Following the College Breakfast, juniors, their parents, and sophomore parents are invited to a panel discussion with five admissions counselors representing a variety of colleges and universities.

Financial Aid Workshop (early December)

Parents of Sayre seniors are invited to attend.  A Georgetown College financial aid officer outlines the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) procedure, discusses scholarship opportunities, and answers questions about the financial aid process.

Juniors’ Night College Program (early January)

Formally kicks off the college search and application process for Sayre juniors and their parents.  Deadlines, procedures, and college search philosophy are discussed.  A panel of recent Sayre graduates and their parents discuss their college search processes and offer tips and pointers.

College and University Admissions Counselor Visits  (September-November)

Sayre is on the visiting list for a number of college admissions counselors.  Students can meet with a visiting admissions counselor to ask questions and find out more about a college or university they might be considering.  These visits occur throughout the fall.

Senior Transition Day (end of April)

This marks the last school day for Sayre seniors.  The Sayre Alumni Club sponsors breakfast for the seniors.  Following breakfast, a series of speakers, including college student panelists, prepare Sayre seniors for life as a college student.

Senior Parent Transition Night (end of April)

Parents also face a transition period when children leave home.  A guest speaker offers insight into helping parents through this time of adjustment.
