Sayre Students Shine at Kentucky Youth Assembly

Sayre School won the Outstanding Delegation award at the 2024 Kentucky Youth Assembly held in Louisville, Kentucky, held November 13-15. This award is given to a Premier Delegation recognized by its peers as having the overall highest quality of participation, level of preparedness, and behavior exemplifying the YMCA’s four core values and culture. Out of 20+ schools, Sayre made the difference. 

In addition to this delegation award, Sayre students led the conference as presiding officers in the mock state government. Elected to lead KYA 2024 were: 

  • Anna Huntress, Speaker of the House

  • Charlotte Harris, Secretary of the Cabinet

Students won the following awards and/or titles:

  • Meredith Rouse: Outstanding Delegate & 2025 KYA Attorney General

  • Kaitlyn Isberg: Outstanding Speaker

  • Finn Ryan: Winner of Supreme Court Showcase Round

  • Sophia Haddad: Chairperson promoted to Pro Tempore

  • Ellie Oldham & Ella Anderkin: **Back-to-back KUNA/KYA Bill Champs by passing the House, Senate, and the Governor’s Desk. 

Bill teams

All bill teams received the Legislative Research Commission Seal of Approval. Sayre-affiliated bills included:

  • Bluegrass Bill #19 (9th & 10th Grade): An Act Relating to Reducing Infant Mortality Rate in Rural Areas in Kentucky by Amelia Sutherlin, Kaitlyn Isberg, and Marielena De Pedro

  • **Commonwealth Bill #21 (11th & 12th Grade): An Act Relating to Improved Treatment for Opioid Addicts by Ellie Oldham and Ella Anderkin

  • Commonwealth Bill #22 (11th & 12th Grade): An Act Relating to the Proportional Enforcement of Criminal Fines by Mia Risco, Beau Porter, Anderson Kim, and Harper Monohan

Sayre students also excelled in the following areas:

Special Programs

  • Cabinet Secretary: Phanisree Murty

  • Committee Chair: Sophia Haddad (promoted to Pro Tempore)

  • Door Keeper: Kate Yandell

Judicial

  • Preston Trout and Brennan Williams performed admirably as Supreme Court Justices.

  • Cynclair Dicken, Finn Ryan, and Meredith Rouse created an excellent attorney team.

Lobbyists

  • Angelica Rich and Jayda Davis

Media Corps

  • Robin Lynch and Dalaynie Wombles represented the Media Corps, writing stories, interviewing participants, and compiling news content in a variety of media platforms.
