Sayre Celebrates 14 Years of Thanksgiving Giving with Lighthouse Ministries

For 14 years, the Sayre community has embraced the spirit of Thanksgiving by supporting Lighthouse Ministries’ annual Thanksgiving meal. This year, the tradition continues as Sayre students, faculty, and families unite to make a meaningful impact on those in need.

The Lighthouse Thanksgiving meal, held for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and food insecurity, is expected to serve approximately 450 people, including 150 children. The Sayre community provided food for the event, with each grade level, from preschool through eighth grade, being assigned specific items to create a traditional holiday menu.

Sayre’s Upper School students contributed over 800 pairs of socks and 50 pies, with 10 more pies baked by the nutritional chemistry class. The Upper School student council also prepared 150 gift bags, offering thoughtful items to brighten the holiday for meal attendees.

The Thanksgiving initiative is not just about feeding people; it’s about fostering a sense of care, compassion, and community. The efforts of students, families, and staff embody the true meaning of Thanksgiving: sharing abundance and spreading hope.
