Our AP Environmental Science students recently attended Tremont, an outdoor laboratory on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee.

During their visit, students learned about ecology and conservation. They explored Hidden River Cave, gaining insights into karst topography and cave ecosystems. A bear ecologist discussed the role of bears in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the challenges of human-bear interactions.

Students conducted hands-on laboratory experiments, including quadrat sampling and water testing. A night hike highlighted the adaptations of nocturnal animals and the impact of light pollution.

This experience at Tremont deepened our students' understanding of environmental science and sparked their interest in nature and conservation.

AP Environmental Science is a college-level science course that prepares students to take the AP Environmental Science exam in May. Coursework includes summer reading, a few field trips before school starts, and a weekend trip in the fall as well as a variety of lab and field experiences.
