Weekly Themes, Summer 2014

Time Travelers (June 2-6)

At Summer Safari, we don’t need a Flux Capacitor to travel back in time. All we need is our imaginations! This week our campers will get to walk with the dinosaurs, attend a Renaissance fair and even go to the Mega Caverns in Louisville. They will wish they actually could travel back in time, so they could experience this week over and over again.

Creepy Crawly Things (June 9-13)

Dirt certainly won’t hurt during this extra fun week at camp! Our campers will be digging up worms, learning about composting, harvesting plants in Sayre’s garden and taking a fun filled trip to the Arboretum! Get ready to get your hands dirty!!

I Want to be a Hero! (June 16-20)

It’s a bird, It’s a plane, It’s the Summer Safari Campers!!! This week, we will be pretending to be super heroes and learning about some real life super heroes as well. Whether they are “flying” with the cape they made during class or meeting with some Lexington Fire Fighters, everyone is sure to have a SUPER good time!

How It’s Made (June 23-27)

Has your child ever asked you, “How is that made?” Well, Summer Safari is here to help with the answer! Our curious campers will get a head full of knowledge this week! We will be learning about everything from how cars are made to what steps go into bottling Kentucky’s favorite soft drink “Ale-8-One”! We will be sure to “MAKE” this week very memorable!

Rockin’ in the USA (June 30-July 4)

Hooray for the USA! This week, we will be celebrating the birth of our great nation. Our campers will learn about our founding Fathers, make special 4th of July crafts and participate in a 4th of July parade and dance party in the front circle, complete with photo booth fun! This week is sure to ROCK!

Horse N Around (July 7-11)

Put on your cowboy hat, boots and giddy up for some horse fun! This week at camp, we will be “horse n around” in a good way! Our little equestrians will learn about horses, ride on ponies and visit the Kentucky Horse Park. They will also get to participate in the “Run for the Roses” in Sayre’s Front Circle Downs. This week will be a SUPERFECTA of fun!

Once Upon a Time (July 14-18)

Once Upon a Time in Lexington, Kentucky, there was a magical camp where the campers could visit Wonderland, help the Prince find the girl who belongs to a very special slipper, and see some very talented actors perform a play. A magical time is sure to be had by all!

Around The World in 5 Days (July 21-25)

Who doesn’t dream of traveling to Europe and other far away places in the summer? Summer Safari will make this dream a reality for all campers without anyone ever leaving camp. Hop into our hot air balloon as we will travel to Europe, Spain and Africa, sample several yummy dishes from around the world and even visit a local restaurant that specializes in Authentic Mexican cuisine.

Treasure Island (July 28-August 1)

Arrgh, Me Mateys! Fire in the hole! Put on your pirate hat, eye patch and come aboard the Sea Spartan that is marooned on Safari Island! This week, all of our hearties will explore the seven seas, create a treasure map and search for buried treasure. Shiver me timbers, it’s going to be a fun week!
