- Be involved in extracurricular school activities and/or community service.
- Possess good interpersonal skills demonstrated in an interview.
- Demonstrate well-developed writing skills.
What is The Benefit?
- An academic scholarship amounting to $10,000 of the yearly Sayre tuition, renewable until the student graduates, potentially totaling as much as $70,000
What is the Application Process?
- Parents submit a Merit Scholarship Application to the Sayre School Admission Office no later than January 13, 2012 for Upper School candidates and February 3 for Middle School applicants.
- After receiving the application, Sayre will request student records and teacher recommendations from the Middle or Upper School.
- The Admission Office will set an interview appointment with the candidate.
- The candidates sit for the SSAT. The SSAT will be administered at Sayre School for Upper School candidates (for rising 9 and 10) on January 21, 2012 and the Middle School test will be administered on February 18, 2012.
Renewable Through Graduation
Once awarded, the merit scholarship is renewable each year until graduation as long as the student maintains a 3.50 GPA each year and a positive relationship with students, teachers, and other members of the Sayre Community. Sayre’s expectation will be that each merit scholar student in grades six through twelve will participate in one or more school activities outside the classroom – sports, fine arts, academic team, or any of the other extra-curricular activities – enriching the student’s experience in the school community.
